Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • ½ cup whole milk (warm)
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 2 tbsp brewed coffee (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: Warm the milk until lukewarm, sprinkle in the yeast, and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Create the Dough Base: In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the yeast mixture along with melted butter and beaten egg. Mix until combined.
  3. Knead Until Smooth: Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let It Rise: Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  5. Shape Your Knots: Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread softened butter over it, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, cut into strips, and tie into knots.
  6. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), place knots on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Add Icing: Mix powdered sugar with brewed coffee to create icing; drizzle over warm knots before serving.
